Voidness of Everything, Compassion for Everyone

Vajra, symbol of skilful means, bell, symbol of voidness

A series of ten teachings on the two key elements of a bodhisattva’s practice: voidness and skilful means (compassionate living). They will be presented first individually and then jointly, as a need for their synergy in actual practice.
The course is open to everyone and free of charge.

Saturdays 17th August through 9th Nov, 2024,
9.30 a. m. UK time, over Zoom.

The « voidness » (sunyata) section, the first six teachings, will be based on Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso’s « Graduated Practice Stages for Sunyata », a text written for students at the Rumtek shedra by Khenpo-la at the request of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and taught to me by him directly on several occasions. So, a very direct transmission. The course will start by clearing up some very common misconceptions about sunyata, so often referred to as ’emptiness’ and then explore the traditional teachings step by step: according to Khenpo the step-by-step approach is the most effective way of understanding sunyata.

The « compassion » section, the final four teachings, will be mainly based on Gampopa’s presentation from his « Ornament of Precious Liberation », first as an overview of compassion’s place in the awareness-love-compassion-bodhicitta development and then as an analysis of the three depths of compassion in attitude and in practice.
